1.1. Journalists (writers, still photographers and TV operators) who intend to cover the Day of prayer for peace in the world in Assisi (24.01.2002) are requested to present the documentation indicated below to:

The Accreditation Office of the Holy See Press Office in Via della Conciliazione 54, ROME is open, for accreditation to this event, from Thursday 3 January 2002, Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m.

The accreditation badges (permanent, temporary or service) issued by the Holy See Press Office, valid and with an expiration date after 24 January 2002, are valid for the Day of prayer for peace in the world in Assisi (24.01.2002).

Those in possession of an accreditation badge need only to notify their intention of covering the event by submitting the apposite form, no later than Thursday 17 January 2002 .

Moreover, broadcasters must request entrance permits to the commentary positions and to the sector for stand up positions in the Lower Saint Francis’ Square in Assisi, using the same form, no later than Thursday 17 January 2002 .

Those who are not in possession of an accreditation badge issued by the Holy See Press Office, valid and with an expiration date after 24 January 2002, are requested to present the following documentation:

• The form issued by the Holy See Press Office, requesting temporary accreditation.
  Broadcasters need to request entrance permits to the commentary positions and to the sector for stand up positions in the Lower Saint Francis’ Square in Assisi, using the apposite specific form.
• Letter by the Management of the news organization represented, requesting accreditation in occasion of the Day of prayer for peace in the world in Assisi (24.01.2002) and certifying that the applicant is a professional journalist and agrees to respect the ethical norms of the journalistic profession (ex. those concerning embargo, etc.).
  In the case of a free-lance journalist, a letter of presentation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Diplomatic Representation of the country where the represented press organization is located.
• Photocopy of the press card (for those who come from countries where this exists) and for still photographers a photocopy of the press card issued by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Government, or photocopy of the valid accreditation badge issued by the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.
• Photocopy of a valid passport or another valid identity document with an expiration date after 24 July 2002.
• For those who have not been accredited to the Holy See Press Office during the past two years, one recent passport-size photograph in color and signed on the back (in case of sending through E-mail: file in format BMP or JPG).

1.2. The deadline for the presentation of the accreditation request for the Day of prayer for peace in the world in Assisi (24.01.2002) is Thursday 17 January 2002 at 12 a.m.

1.3. All Logistical information for accredited journalists and forms, as well as all published information, are available:

1.4. Requests presented with incomplete documentation or not according to the rules listed in point 1.2., or having been received after the presentation deadline, will not be taken into consideration.

1.5. All accreditation badges, access permits to event sites with limited or very restricted access and access permits to the commentary positions and to the stand up positions for broadcasters in the Lower Saint Francis’ Square in Assisi, issued by the Holy See Press Office, may be picked up, according to the notification given by the applicants with the apposite form:

• at the Accreditation Office of the Holy See Press Office in Via della Conciliazione 54, ROME, Monday 21 e Tuesday 22 January 2002 from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. ;
• at the Press Center (Cittadella Ospitalità of Pro Civitate Christiana, Borgo San Pietro) for writers; or at the Television Service Center (Sala Norsa, Piazza San Francesco 2) for still photographers and audiovisual operators in ASSISI, Thursday 22 and Wednesday 23 January 2002, from 9 a.m. till 12 a.m. and from 3 p.m. till 6 p.m. ).

1.6. Accredited journalists who are unable to pick up personally the accreditation badge and permits, are requested to delegate in writing a representative.

1.7. To pick up eventual permits it is necessary to demonstrate the accreditation badge with plastic pouch and background.

1.8. The eventual loss of an accreditation badge or permit has to be notified in writing to the Assistant of the Director of the Holy See Press Office and at the same time a provisional badge or a substitution for the permit has to be requested.

3.2. The following services will be available at the Press Center of Assisi:

• live international sound and video feed of the events (by RAI) and live broadcasts with commentaries and services of RAI, on video screens;
• 75 working places, equipped with electric current;
• 5 working places, equipped with PC connected to Internet and printers on line;
• 5 telephones with international access in cabins;
• 10 telephone connections for data transmission with laptops and incorporated modems;
• 2 telefax machines with international access;
• 1 fast photocopier;
• coffee shop and restaurant service (meal tickets should be obtained with the Management of the Cittadella Pro Civitate Christiana).

3.3. Payment for the telecommunication services available at the Press Center of Assisi should be made to Telecom.

3.4. Those who need personalized services (reserved telephones, PC, telefax, box for exclusive working place, ecc.), should get in touch immediately with the Responsible for the Press Center of Assisi (see point 2).

  4. Audiovisual Service Center

4.1. The Audiovisual Service Center of Assisi for television, photographic agencies and radio stations will be set up in:

4.2. The live international sound and video feed of the events (by RAI) and the live broadcasts with commentaries and services of RAI will be available in the Audiovisual Service Center.

4.3. Arrangements to set up of a working space at the charge of the individual news organizations (telephone connections, electric current, etc.) can be made with the RAI Booking (see point 7.3.2.) and with the Responsible of the Audiovisual Service Center (see point 2).

5.1. Upon arrival of the Holy Father on 24 January 2002, his speeches will be available for accredited journalists, under embargo till the moment in which they will be pronounced, at the Press Center and at the Audiovisual Services Center of Assisi.

5.2. All other texts and the available information will be distributed at the Press Center and at the Audiovisual Service Center of Assisi.

6.1. Press Sectors will be set up at the event sites, reserved for accredited journalists (writers, still photographers and TV operators) wearing the accreditation badge issued by the Holy See Press Office, valid and not expired, inserted in the plastic pouch with background.

6.2. Due to particular logistical limitations at the event sites, the limited or very restricted access to certain events or Press Sectors will be regulated by the apposite access permits issued by the Holy See Press Office.

6.3. Transmission, however, of the international sound and video feed co-produced by RAI and CTV is guaranteed (by RAI) from all event sites at the Press Center and at the Audiovisual Service Center of Assisi.

6.4. Indicazioni circa i settori stampa nei luoghi degli eventi

Detailed information and indications concerning Press Sectors, the participation in the events with limited access and the access modalities at the event sites, with the list of the necessary permits, is been given below, in italian (english translation will be published as soon as possible).

Partenza in treno per Assisi del Santo Padre insieme con i Rappresentanti e gli Invitati.

Percorso: Roma-San Pietro; Roma-Ostiense; Roma-Tuscolana; Roma-Tiburtina; Orte; San Liberato; Nera Montoro; Narni-Amelia; Terni; Baiano di Spoleto; Campello sul Clitunno; Trevi; Foligno; Spello; Santa Maria degli Angeli (Assisi).

Il convoglio non effettua fermate nelle stazioni attraversate.

Il treno, come mezzo di trasporto dal Vaticano, è stato utilizzato da Papa Giovanni XXIII per recarsi ad Assisi e a Loreto il 4 ottobre 1962 e da Papa Giovanni Paolo II l’8 novembre 1979 per recarsi al Deposito delle Ferrovie dello Stato a Roma-Salario, dove ha celebrato la Santa Messa in occasione della Giornata del Ferroviere.

Sarà ammesso un pool di 5 giornalisti accreditati, portatori di tessera di accreditamento e di permesso " TP " Giallo Chiaro "Treno Papale".

I giornalisti ammessi al Treno Papale dovranno ritirare il permesso TP martedì 22 gennaio 2002, dalle ore 10.00 alle 14.00, presentando la tessera di accreditamento presso la Sala Stampa della Santa Sede, valida e non scaduta; dovranno trovarsi presso la Stazione ferroviaria Vaticana (ingresso Cancello del Petriano) entro le ore 07.30 del 24 gennaio 2002, per prendere il posto assegnato sul Treno Papale.

Per il pool fotografico e il pool televisivo per la partenza dalla Stazione ferroviaria vaticana possono essere presi accordi con il PCCS.

Accesso libero con tessera di accreditamento.

I giornalisti accreditati dovranno trovarsi nel settore M entro le ore 09.30 (1h prima dell’arrivo del Santo Padre) e potranno raggiungere Assisi soltanto dopo le ore 11.00 (15' dopo la partenza del Corteo Papale), con mezzi propri.

Accoglienza e Testimonianze per la pace.

Il Santo Padre accoglie i Rappresentanti sul palco.

Ore 12.00: il Santo Padre invita i Rappresentanti a recarsi nei diversi luoghi per la preghiera.

I giornalisti accreditati dovranno raggiungere la Piazza Inferiore di San Francesco entro le ore 10.15. Soltanto dopo l’arrivo del Santo Padre (ore 11.00) sarà nuovamente reso possibile l’accesso.

Le testate televisive dovranno inoltre fare il "Booking" con la RAI per il "feed" e dovranno concordarsi per il posto di lavoro con il Responsabile del Centro Servizi Audiovisivi.

I permessi PA (individuali) saranno consegnati, con le modalità indicate nel Punto 1.5. della Documentazione logistica per i giornalisti accreditati del 19.12.2001, presso il Centro Servizi Audiovisivi, nella Sala Norsa ad Assisi (a cura dell’Ufficio "Booking" della RAI oppure del Responsabile del Centro Servizi Audiovisivi).

[Visto lo spazio ristretto nel Piazzale di fronte alla Sala Norsa, si comunica che le testate televisive hanno anche a disposizione - accesso con tessera di accreditamento - delle postazioni per stand-up nell’Orto dei Frati (Parcheggio mezzi di produzione e satellitari delle testate televisive non RAI), con vista panoramica sulla vallata e sulla Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e su parte del Sacro Convento.]

Accesso con tessera di accreditamento insieme a permesso " T " Verde "Piazza Inferiore S. Francesco/Tribuna Fotoreporters", rilasciato dalla Sala Stampa della Santa Sede, a tutti i fotoreporters accreditati.

L’accesso alla tribuna T , eventualmente in sistema di "rotating pool", sarà regolato dall’Assistente del Direttore della Sala Stampa della Santa Sede.

I portatori di permesso T avranno accesso anche al Centro Servizi Audiovisivi (Sala Norsa). Per i posti di lavoro e telecomunicazioni (linee telefoniche) le testate televisive, radiofoniche e fotografiche dovranno fare richiesta direttamente al Responsabile del Centro Servizi Audiovisivi.

I permessi T (individuali) saranno consegnati a cura del Responsabile del Centro Servizi Audiovisivi, nella Sala Norsa ad Assisi, con le modalità indicate nel Punto 1.5. nella Documentazione logistica per i giornalisti accreditati dal 19.12.2001.

Disposizione nella Piazza Inferiore di San Francesco: davanti al Palco per il Santo Padre e i Capi delle Delegazioni, si trova il Podio per le testimonienze. Di fronte troveranno posto: i Vescovi (50 c.), i Cardinali (25 c.), le Autorità civili, il Corpo Diplomatico presso la Santa Sede (80 c.), Rappresentanti (200 c.) e in seguito i fedeli.

Accesso con tessera di accreditamento insieme a permesso " BI " Lavanda "Basilica Inferiore S. Francesco".

Saranno ammessi gli operatori per le dirette TV della RAI e un gruppo limitato di fotoreporters, secondo l’elenco che sarà reso noto martedì 22 gennaio 2002.

I permessi BI (individuali) saranno consegnati ai fotoreporters ammessi al Pool Fotoreporters a cura dell’Assistente del Direttore della Sala Stampa della Santa Sede, presso il Centro Servizi Audiovisivi, nella Sala Norsa ad Assisi, mercoledì 23 gennaio 2002, dalle ore 18.00 alle 20.00.

Il Pool Fotoreporters dovrà trovarsi presso l’ingresso del Sacro Convento alle ore 11.45. Il Pool Fotoreporters raggiungerà la postazione assegnata, accompagnato da rappresentanti del servizio d’ordine.

SC - Postazioni telecamere dirette TV RAI/CTV e Pool Fotoreporters (Luoghi di preghiera nel Sacro Convento)

Ingresso attraverso Largo Gregorio IX e Porta del Sacro Convento

Accesso con tessera di accreditamento insieme a permesso " SC " Rosso "Sacro Convento/Luoghi di preghiera".

Saranno ammessi gli operatori per le dirette TV-RAI e un gruppo molto ristretto di fotoreporters (1 per ogni luogo di preghiera), secondo l’elenco che sarà reso noto martedì 22 gennaio 2002.

I permessi SC (individuali) saranno consegnati ai fotoreporters ammessi al Pool Fotoreporters a cura dell’Assistente del Direttore della Sala Stampa della Santa Sede, presso il Centro Servizi Audiovisivi, nella Sala Norsa ad Assisi, mercoledì 23 gennaio 2002, dalle ore 18.00 alle 20.00.

I fotoreporters ammessi dovranno trovarsi presso l’ingresso del Sacro Convento entro le ore 11.45. Potranno raggiungere i vari luoghi di preghiera, insieme al gruppo a cui saranno assegnati nel Sacro Convento: Islamismo, Buddhismo, Sikhismo, Religioni Tradizionali Africane, Induismo, Tenrikyo, Shintoismo, Ebraismo, Zoroastrianesimo, Giainismo e Conficianesimo.

Il segnale internazionale audio e video in diretta dalla Basilica Inferiore di San Francesco e un riepilogo in differita (circa 15') dagli altri luoghi, saranno disponibili nel Centro Stampa di Assisi per i redattori accreditati e nel Centro Servizi Audiovisivi per le testate TV accreditati.

Prima di lasciare l’Appartamento Pontificio, il Santo Padre incontra S.E. il Signor Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, Presidente della Repubblica Italiana, con le Personalità al Suo Seguito.

Per il pool fotografico e il pool televisivo per la partenza dalla Stazione ferroviaria vaticana possono essere presi accordi con il PCCS.

1.2.1. Tutti i permessi di accesso ai luoghi degli eventi con accesso limitato verranno rilasciati dalla Sala Stampa della Santa Sede.

1.2.2. Si ricorda che i permessi di accesso ai settori stampa negli eventi con accesso limitato verranno consegnati con le modalità esposte nei Punti 1.5., 1.6. e 1.7. della Documentazione logistica per i giornalisti accreditati del 19.12.2001 e secondo le ulteriori indicazioni fornite nel punto 6.4.1.

6.4.3.1. I giornalisti accreditati dovranno trovarsi nei luoghi con accesso limitato, almeno 45' prima dell’arrivo del Santo Padre .

6.4.3.2. Per la partecipazione negli eventi è richiesto un abbigliamento confacente alla circostanza.

6.4.3.3. I permessi di accesso, per avere validità, devono essere inseriti nella custodia di plastica con fondo, insieme alla tessera di accreditamento PERMANENTE, TEMPORANEA o SERVIZIO, oppure alla tessera di accreditamento PARTICOLARE, valida soltanto per Assisi il 24.01.2002 (SERVIZIO o STAMPA), rilasciata dalla Sala Stampa della Santa Sede, portata a vista .

6.4.3.4. I possessori di tessera di accreditamento SERVIZIO potranno raggiungere i luoghi degli eventi con accesso limitato soltanto se in possesso del relativo permesso di accesso, rilasciato dalla Sala Stampa della Santa Sede.

6.4.3.5. A coloro che per motivi di servizio dovranno raggiungere tutti i luoghi degli eventi con presenza stampa e i settori stampa con accesso limitato o molto ristretto, sarà rilasciato un permesso " G " Bianco-Giallo "Generale".

6.4.3.6. Tutte gli operatori delle testate televisive e radiofoniche riceveranno il permesso PA per poter accedere al Centro Servizi Audiovisivi (presso la Sala Norsa) e alle postazioni per gli Stand Up (presso il Piazzale della Sala Norsa).

6.4.3.7. Tutti i fotoreporters riceveranno il permesso T per poter acceder al Centro Servizi Audiovisivi (presso la Sala Norsa) e alla Tribuna Fotoreporters nella Piazza Inferiori di San Francesco.

7.1.1. Television coverage of the following events, for worldwide distribution, will be co-produced by RAI (Radiotelevisione Italiana) and CTV (Vatican Television Center) as host broadcasters:

a. Departure by train - Railway Station - Vatican City
The live coverage produced by CTV will be made available in Vatican City and will be transmitted to the Press Center and to the Audiovisual Service Center of Assisi by RAI. RAI will offer flashes from the helicopter of the departure and during the voyage.

b. Arrival by train - Railway Station - Saint Mary of the Angels (Assisi)
RAI will also offer the coverage from the helicopter of the arrival at Assisi.

d. Prayer for peace of the Christians, followed by highlights of the Prayer Services of the Representatives of the various other Religions - Lower Basilica of Saint Francis/Other Places - Assisi
At the conclusion of the live coverage of the Prayer for peace of the Christians presided over by the Holy Father at the Lower Basilica of Saint Francis, highlights of the Prayer Services of the Representatives of the various other Religions (about 5' for each group) will be transmitted in delay (about 15').

g. Arrival by train - Railway Station - Vatican City
The live coverage produced by CTV will be made available in Vatican City.

7.1.2. The exact broadcast timetable of the international sound e video feed and of the RAI programming will be communicated as soon as possible.

7.1.3. It is advised that the broadcasters should make their bookings with RAI and contact the competent Authorities for the requested audiovisual services. To set up eventual exclusive working space at the Audiovisual Service Center it is necessary to be urgently in touch with the RAI Booking and with the Responsible for the Audiovisual Service Center of Assisi.

The coverage eventually produced by the ENG CTV as pool in agreement with the Holy See Press Office and the eventual statements by the Director of the Holy See Press Office, interviews, etc. will be made available, free of charge, by the Assistant of the Director of the Holy See Press Office and the RAI RADIO TV DG Organizer (Mr. Gianfranco Di Ruzza), through the Eurovision Department of RAI in the "feed point" of Assisi.

7.3.1. RAI offers the following services, in Assisi:

• Stand-up positions for live broadcasts under the Gallery to the right in the Lower Saint Francis’ Square (access with accreditation badge and specific access permit issued by the Holy See Press Office).
• Commentary positions for broadcasters under the Gallery in the back to the right in the Lower Saint Francis’ Square (access with accreditation badge and specific access permit issued by the Holy See Press Office).
• Distribution of the international sound and video feed of the RAI-CTV co-production at the feed point at the Audiovisual Service Center of Assisi (Sala Norsa, Piazza San Francesco 2) and at the Press Center of Assisi (Cittadella Ospitalità della Pro Civitate Christiana) (access with accreditation badge issued by the Holy See Press Office); at the commentary positions for broadcasters at the Lower Saint Francis’ Square (access with accreditation badge and specific access permit issued by the Holy See Press Office).
• Distribution of the footage from the ENG CTV and RAI, on cassette at the Audiovisual Services Center (Sala Norsa, Piazza San Francesco 2) of Assisi (access with accreditation badge issued by the Holy See Press Office).

7.3.2. The broadcasts of the TV-feed will be available, according to the usual arrangements, directly through RAI (at Assisi) or in the European area through the Eurovision Network.

7.3.3. European Broadcasting Union (EBU)

7.3.31. L’EBU comunica che si occuperà ad Assisi della diffusione in Eurovisione sia della coproduzione RAI-CTV in diretta, sia di offrire l’accesso al circuito Eurovisione per i corrispondenti che intendono trasmettere i loro servizi e stand-ups da Assisi.

7.3.3.2. I servizi offerti dall’EBU ad Assisi sono i seguenti:

• Posizioni stand-up per trasmissioni in diretta dal settore PA , nel Piazzale della Sala Norsa.
• Beta SP/SX e DVCPro (PAL) playout.
• Editing in Beta SP & SX (PAL).
• Live Uplink verso l’Eurovision Network su Eutelsat, Panamsat e Asiasat.

7.4.1. Satellite up-link of the broadcasts via Intelsat is offered free to all countries outside the European Area.

7.4.2. Broadcasters may avail themselves of the commentaries in Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Ukrainian provided by the Pontifical Council for Social Communications for the events listed in points 7.1.c, d, e (a commentary in Italian, provided by RAI, will also be available). Along with the international sound and video feed, the satellite transmissions in all regions will carry clean feeds on separate channels of the commentaries.

7.4.3. In the case of those countries with particular difficulties and on the recommendation of the respective Pontifical Representatives, the Pontifical Council for Social Communications will reimburse the satellite down-link or Eurovision costs (but not the cost of the local broadcast).

7.4.4.For the Americas, a video feed complete with the commentary provided by the Pontifical Council for Social Communications will be available through Telespazio.

8.1. The Press Parking in Assisi will be at the Istituto Serafico, Viale Marconi 6 (300 m from the Press Center and from the Audiovisual Service Center, before Porta San Pietro, to the left after the intersection of Viale Vittorio Emanuele and Viale Marconi).

8.2. The transit of cars in the City of Assisi will be forbidden on 24 January 2002, except for TV production vehicles headed to Via San Francesco (RAI), Via Padre Domenico Stella (others) or the Press Center of Assisi.

8.3. All transit of cars will be forbidden on the road which connects Assisi and Saint Mary of the Angels on 24 January 2002 from 9.30 a.m. (1 hour before the arrival of the Holy Father) till 11.00 a.m. (15' after the departure of the Papal Motorcade).

8.4. There will be no transportation service in Assisi.

8.4. l’accesso al Parcheggio Stampa A ( Istituto Serafico, Via Marconi 6 ) sarà consentito SENZA LASCIAPASSARE, soltanto su presentazione della tessera di accreditamento presso la Sala Stampa della Santa Sede, valida e non scaduta (dunque anche gli eventuali autisti dovranno essere in possesso della tessera di accreditamento).

8.5. Non è previsto un servizio trasporto per la stampa.

8.6. Parcheggio per i mezzi di produzione delle testate TV

a. I Parcheggi per i mezzi di produzione delle testate TV saranno allestiti:

X Mezzi di produzione RAI: Largo Gregorio IX (di fronte al Centro Servizi Televisivi, Sala Norsa)

Y Mezzi di produzione e satellitari non-RAI: Orto dei Frati (sotto i muri della Basilica di San Francesco)

Z Mezzi satellitari RAI: Piazza Superiore di San Francesco

Il Parcheggio Y potrà essere raggiunto, venendo da Perugia, superato Ponte San Vittorino, imboccando sulla destra la stradina privata della Selva del Sacro Convento, seguendo le indicazioni che saranno date dal Servizio d’ordine.

b. L’accesso al Parcheggio Y per i mezzi di produzione o di trasmissione delle testate TV, dovrà essere concordato con il Responsabile del Centro Servizi Audiovisivi di Assisi.

Il lasciapassare per il Parcheggio Y potrà essere ritirato, dalle testate televisivi che ne hanno fatto richiesto, presso il Centro Servizi Audiovisivi, nella Sala Norsa di Assisi, a partire di lunedì 21 gennaio 2002 .

c. Non sarà rilasciato un lasciapassare per i Parcheggi X e Z (l’accesso sarà garantito SENZA LASCIAPASSARE, secondo gli accordi presi con il Responsabile locale per la struttura informativa di Assisi, di concerto con la Sala Stampa della Santa Sede).
